TanUM Nanotech Solutions Wins Top Prize at Mindanao-wide Innovation Pitching Competition

The innovative team behind TanUM Nanotech Solutions emerged as the champion in a Mindanao-wide technology pitching competition, besting 12 other promising technologies presented by universities across the region. The event brought together some of Mindanao’s brightest innovators, showcasing cutting-edge solutions that address pressing challenges in agriculture, aquaculture, and related industries.
TanUM Nanotech Solutions stood out for its breakthrough application of nanotechnology designed to improve agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability. The team impressed both the audience and the panel of evaluators with their well-structured business model, clear commercialization potential, and strong presentation of their technology’s societal impact.
The panel of evaluators was composed of distinguished experts from government, academe, and industry sectors, including Ms. Edelmira Luminarias, Chief of the Research Division of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XIII; Mr. Neptali V. Madarimot, of the Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center XIII; Mr. Keith Bryan Vincent R. Angeles, of the Food and Drug Administration-Caraga; Ms. Maribeth Perez, of the Butuan City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc.; Engr. Emman Llian L. Prisco, represented by Dr. Mariero H. Gawat, of the Department of Science and Technology-Caraga; and Mr. Freedcarmariam D. Gonzaga, of the Department of Trade and Industry-Caraga.
Their combined expertise ensured a holistic evaluation process that considered both the scientific merit and market readiness of each presented technology.
Securing second place was the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) with its Innovative Biomass Composter, a sustainable solution for agricultural waste management that promotes circular economy practices. Meanwhile, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) earned third place with its Quick Roast Griller, a practical and market-ready innovation aimed at improving food processing efficiency.
